“Lotto Player Wins EC$322,000”

ST. GEORGE’S - FRIDAY, 18TH NOVEMBER, 2016 – Kathy Marshall of Clozier, St. John’s has claimed her prize of EC$322,000, after winning the Lotto jackpot on Wednesday, 9th November, 2016. The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) handed over the jackpot just about one week later to an elated Mrs. Marshall on Friday, 18th November, 2016.

According to Marketing Manager of the NLA - Ms. Reecè Sam, the last time a jackpot was won was in December of 2015. After having no winner for the first half of 2016, the NLA, in the latter part of July,  decided to escalate the attractiveness of the jackpot by increasing the increments – giving it a bump of EC$28,000 over a 4-week period.  “On July 25th, it was increased by $6,000; then it was further increased by $5,000 each for 8 consecutive draws, before returning to the $2,000 increments, “ explained Ms. Sam. “And as a result, Mrs. Marshall has won EC$322,000!”

NLA’s General Manager, Mr. Geoffrey Gilbert handed over the cheque to Mrs. Marshall. A certificate of recognition was also prepared for presenting to the jackpot seller – Licks ‘N’ Bytes og Gouyave, St. John’s. A few years ago, Licks ‘N’ Bytes had sold one of the largest Lotto jackpots – a whopping EC$415,000, which was won by Mr. Terry Benjamin of Gouyave, St. John’s.

Accompanied by her husband, Mrs. Marshall, an ardent player of the NLA’s games, was quite pleased to speak about her experiences. Unaware of having won until two days after the draw, Mrs. Marshall expressed with delight that it was the most wonderful surprise, to have found out on the twenty-third anniversary of her marriage. “I had never won before – nothing at all - but it is true that you have to be in it to win it,” she stated, referring to one of the NLA’s slogans.

Mrs. Marshall’s plans for her winning include helping some very needy people in her community, and investments. She plans to encourage other residents in her community to play the NLA’s games.

Ms. Sam thanked Mrs. Marshall, and all players of the NLA’s games for their continued support.

The Lotto game is a home-grown jackpot; and is drawn three times per week; i.e.: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It carries a starting jackpot of EC$40,000.
